What Is Pilates?

Pilates is an exercise method that incorporates trunk and spinal movement, without risking injury or building bulk.

This is done by focusing on optimum musculo-skeletal performance – strength, flexibility and endurance. With a focus on core stability, including pelvic and shoulder girdle stabilisation, neutral alignment and breathing, the five basic principles of Pilates.

This method of exercise also helps to restore the natural curves of the spine, relieve tension and enhance self-confidence. The result is a balanced and aligned body that looks great, feels revitalised and moves with ease.

It has been in effect for over 20 years, resulting in the inclusion of modern principles of exercise science and spinal rehabilitation, making it one of the safest and effective methods of Pilates available.

Trigger Point Pilates

Trigger Point Pilates, is a method that has been designed to combine Pilate’s core moves with Trigger Point release and clinical myofascial principles to help alleviate chronic pain conditions using equipment.

Simply replacing my hands with the equipment provided, just like having a treatment. This equipment can be purchased and then used in the home, or when travelling, always available to yourself.

The class is designed to release tight muscles, enhance functional daily movement, and restructure the body. The programme helps to release the body from the inside to out targeting the connective tissue that surrounds every muscle and joint. Enabling one to move with ease, release painful conditions, and have a better functional life.

The class attracts everyone from elite fit to post rehab. Fascia restrictions occur in everyone, whatever their age, activity or level of fitness.

Pilates & Sport

Pilates is taught to many athletes, and is the foundation for a successful and lengthy sporting career.

For all activities a strong core, and functional working body is the key to success. As Pilates aims to strengthen the body, with a neutral spinal alignment, resulting in an ideal posture.

When the body is aligned correctly you will achieve, maximal results from it. When it is not often, injury or poor performance may occur.

Having worked in various international fields of sport, I have witnessed Pilates based exercises in each and everyone.

Athletics/Running
Common complaints in these fields, are often a result of poor body alignment, causing over use injuries of various joints, such as knees, ankles, and hips. With good core strength, all of these could have been avoided

Tennis
Over use injuries are common here, but common complaints are often sore shoulders, serves not strong or accurate enough, unable to return where you’d like the ball to go. All of these would be because the upper body is poorly aligned with the lower body, resulting in less power, and therefore less accuracy

Golf
To achieve a good range with your first swing, comes from having a well aligned body, and also good strength through the obliques, to accommodate and maintain the rotation required to put the right amount of power through the club and onto the ball. Likewise to maintain consistency on the course as you move from hole to hole, is assisted with Pilates as you have that stamina and strength to perform

Every sport requires an element particular to it, however the common denominator is Pilates, and core strength to maximise full potential.
